Happy Sunday! I hope today you are excited to learn about a new author? I am pleased to present to us: Jeanine Goodrich. She is an author of fantasy and has had some interesting experiences that ultimately led her to an author’s life. This author is truly remarkable, and if you woukd like to learn more about her, her journey, and her books; then you can follow at Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, and Amazon.
Are you an indie author or a traditionally published author?
I am a proud Indie author
Tell me a little about your writing journey, thus far?
I have been writing pretty much all my life, I have a stack of old journals that are filled, notebooks with thousands of poems, and a folder with about 50 songs I have written. I have only started writing books recently.
Do you write under a pseudonym? If so explain why.
I write under J.M. Goodrich. Basically just because my initials sound cooler than my full name lol.
What genre do you write and why?
I write mostly fantasy, with a little romance thrown in there. I have always loved the two genres, especially fantasy.
What are you currently working on?
Currently, I am finishing up a short story for an anthology I am participating in, which will be released in January. I am also working on the outlines of four novels of my own that I plan to publish next year as well.
What inspired you to write your books?
Honestly, I just have always loved writing. A couple years ago, right after my son turned 6 he was diagnosed with cancer. During his treatment of radiation, we had to stay down in the hospital for a month straight. I had just quit my job (it was too stressful to try to keep it up and take care of my son at the same time) and I wanted something to do, both to help pass the time and to try to keep my mind from thinking the worst while he was in treatment. So I started writing a book. (My son just celebrated 4 years of being cancer free on December 2nd, yay!)
What are your top 5 favorite books?
My top 5 favorite books. That’s tough. I like series. Plus, I am obsessed with The Beatles, lol, so most of my books are about them. But my top 5 would have to be- Working Class Mystic, a Spiritual Biography of George Harrison; Eon by Alison Goodman; The Morganville Vampire Series by Rachel Caine, The Lunar Chronicles by Marissa Meyer, and Loving John by May Pang.
What does literary success lool like to you?
Literary success, to me, is just having your book done and out there. Mine isn’t a best seller, but I managed to finish it, get it edited and a cover, and it’s out there. I’m proud of it, even if it doesn’t sell too well.
How many hours a day do you write? What is your writing routine?
I try to write at least two hours a day. Sometimes it’s difficult to get some writing in with a three year old demanding all my time. But while he’s napping (if he does) that’s when I sit down and really get to work. I usually wait until everyone is in bed though, when the house is clean (usually done by me lol) and it’s nice and quiet.
If you could have been the original author of any book, what would it be and why?
If I could have been the original author of any book, it would probably be Cinder, the first book in the Lunar Chronicles. I absolutely loved that book, as well as the whole series.
What advice would you like to give to aspiring authors?
The best advice I could give to aspiring authors is just to never give up. Writing a book isn’t easy. In fact, finishing one is the hardest thing for most writers. You don’t have to have a huge goal or anything, just a couple hundred words everyday can really add up. Don’t compare yourself to other authors. Everyone is different and unique and your story needs to be told 😊
***Stay tuned for next Sunday where I introduce author Laura Lee!
